Oxfordshire 14-19 Strategy Launched

Following the successful launch of the Oxfordshire 14-19 Strategy at the Kassam Stadium in April, partnerships of schools, colleges and training providers are forming in order to determine their priorities. Partnerships in each area of Oxfordshire will be funded to work together to improve the offer for learners in their area.

For further information about the strategy click on the link in the Links section of this website.

OLP funded To support the development Of Local Consortia

OLP has been given additional funding by MKOB LSC to support the development of local consortia to deliver a more coherent and wider offer to 14-19 learners in Oxfordshire.

Jim Douglas, OLP partnership manager, is working with local consortia of schools and colleges to help them to assess their performance as consortia against best practice and to draw up three year development plans which may be funded by MKOB LSC. A particular priority is to extend partnership arrangements to include 14-16 learners.

More information on 14-19 developments in Oxfordshire can be found in the Oxfordshire 14-19 Update: December 2004 on the downloads page of this website.

OLP Adult Learning Conference: Widening Participation, the Way Forward. 14 December 2004.

The day started with workshops on Family Learning, Skills for Life, Extended Schools and Strategic Area Review. In the afternoon delegates considered how collaborative working across Oxfordshire could be improved and a decision was made for providers to work together more closely on planning for Adult Learners Week 2005. A full conference report can be downloaded from the downloads page of this website.

STAR Consultation and 14-19 Development Conference on 5 October 2004

80 delegates attended a conference to consider the draft options presented by MKOB LSC for changes in the structure and performance of education and training provision in Oxfordshire. More information about the options and how to join the consultation is on the MKOB LSC website. In the afternoon delegates were addressed by John Bridgeman, chair of the Oxfordshire 14-19 strategy group, who outlined the challenges facing schools, colleges and training providers in improving access and performance. The delegates learned about the functioning of three local consortia and discussed how consortia could be developed.

Oxfordshire 14 to 19 Strategic Group

The Oxfordshire Learning Partnership has been asked to undertake additional work on behalf of the group to support the development of local 14-19 consortia. Work will start with the Abingdon and Oxford city consortia.

Basic Skills Mapping Exercise

Oxfordshire Learning Partnership has published a report mapping basic skills provision in the County and making recommendations for better joint planning of provision to meet needs. The report will be the subject of a provider conference in December 2004 and is available to download from this website.

Annual Conference 2004

The Oxfordshire Learning Partnership held its annual conference in April. The morning was spent discussing the progress of the MKOB wide strategic area review being carried out by the LSC. In the afternoon the conference discussed proposals from the MKOB Aimhigher Partnership to raise participation in higher education. Delegates also had the opportunity to celebrate the achievement of the six recipients of the 2004 Oxfordshire learner awards.

Young Apprenticeships

A partnership consisting of Oxford and Cherwell College, eight Oxfordshire Secondary Schools, Formula Schools Ltd and local engineering employers has been successful in gaining funding from the Learning and Skills Council to run a pioneering Young Apprenticeship scheme in engineering. Thirty 14 year olds will spend two days a week in college and in the workplace over the next two years working towards NVQ qualifications in engineering. The partnership is chaired by Jim Douglas, partnership manager of the Oxfordshire Learning Partnership.

14 to 19 Strategic Group

Oxfordshire learning Partnership is playing an active part in the group that has been set up under John Bridgeman, chairman of the Oxfordshire Economic Partnership, to develop a strategy for the improvement of 14 to 19 provision in the County. Key issues emerging from the work so far is the need for strong leadership to encourage consistent practice, closer collaboration between providers and better use of data to inform policy.

Basic Skills Mapping Exercise

Oxfordshire Learning Partnership has recently received a report mapping basic skills provision in the County and making recommendations for better joint planning of provision to meet needs. The report will be the subject of a provider conference in the autumn and will soon be available to download from this website.
